Meet the Team: Luke Poulton, Business Development Executive

It’s time for another one of the Stripe team to stand in the spotlight! Meet our Business Developer Executive, Luke, who started in November 2019. Read on to find out more about our resident runner!

Luke, tell us a little about your background, where you started out and how you’ve come to find yourself at Stripe.

Well my passion for IT was sparked in my sandwich year working for a Reading based IT outsourcer, leading me to work for a SaaS provider in London, where we were closely aligned to Microsoft and Citrix. Obviously, Stripe OLT are specialists when it comes to the Microsoft stack, so I was naturally drawn here!

Makes sense! So why Stripe OLT specifically?

The values completely aligned, and I bought into the wider strategy – for me, it was the perfect time to come on board! Plus, I love the direction and trajectory of the business, as well as the idea of working alongside the dedicated SOC team. The atmosphere in the office is great and you can tell that the company really values its team members, you couldn’t ask for more really!

100%! So, what does your day to day at Stripe entail?

I know this sounds totally cringey and generic, but no one day is the same here – genuinely! It’s a very varied role, I work on new business sales, liaising with a multitude of clients, and working with the delivery teams to ensure success and smoothness in transactions.

So, now we know a little about your professional life, do you have any personal achievements or hidden talents you’d like to share with us?

I’ve recently been trying to challenge myself more physically. I’ve completed a couple of half marathons recently and cycled 110 miles across two days which was a high point in my personal achievements. I have also planned an Ironman for October this year, however you should check back in with me on this one – I might end up crawling it!

Sound intense, I’m impressed! What about your likes and dislikes, do you have any hobbies (asides from training for the Ironman!)?

I play six aside football, although I only started last week so I don’t know if that counts! Nowadays my weekends usually consist of cooking or going on a run. My favourite Friday night dinner is crispy chilli cauliflower, it’s about the only good thing I can cook!

Sounds delicious! Final question, if you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

Henry Ford – This guy revolutionised an industry. Anyone who attempted and managed that level of revolution I would love to meet!
